Best of Show ______________________________________________________________________________

Best of Show honors go to Dr. Lawrence Golan, Professor of Conducting at the University of Denver's Lamont School of Music and Music Director of the Yakima Symphony Orchestra, for his album, Indian Summer. Performing the rich and vibrant compositions of George Perlman, Golan excels as an accomplished violinist for which he also receives our Award of Excellence for his acoustic instrumental performance within a group. In Indian Summer, Golan is accompanied by Martin Perry on piano. The album is available from Albany Records. Golan began studying violin at an early age with his father, and later with his father's former teacher, George Perlman. He earned degrees from Indiana University and became the first violinist ever to receive a Doctorate from the New England Conservatory of Music. Golan's original composition Fantasia for Solo Violin receives the GMA Award of Excellence, and is published by Ludwig Music. Awards of Merit _______________________________________________________________________________

The GMA Award of Merit goes to Shawn Clement of Clemistry Music for his score to the IMAX sci-fi animated film, Quantum Quest: A Cassini Space Odyssey. The score was performed with an 80-piece ensemble of the Skywalker Symphony Orchestra. Clement who is a graduate of Berklee College of MusicÂin Boston recently had his music premiered at The Kennedy Center in DC during A Tribute to the Wounded Warriors. LINK

Grammy nominated singer Jana Mashonee receives the GMA Award of Merit for her vocal performance of her song, A Change Is Gonna Come. She refers to herself as an "urban Indian" and has seamlessly blended her life as a hip, young musician with her roots as an American Indian. Despite her fast-paced career, Jana has still found time to give back by establishing her non-profit organization, Jana's Kids. LINK

Mick Fitzgerald of Dublin, Ireland, receives GMA Award of Merit for his children's recordingThe Enchanted Lake; Irish Legends, Stories and Harp Music, and as vocalist. The stories on this album were chosen and edited by Gabriele Haefs and features Nadia Birkenstock on harp. Recently Fitzgerald published his solo CD, Streetwise, and is working with Haefs on a book with stories about Irish music. LINK

Award of Excellence ___________________________________________________________________________

Robert Stephen Rothkopf, a student at Indiana University's Jacobs School of Music, receives the GMA Award of Excellence for his original song If Only and our Award of Merit for vocal performance of his song. Rothkopf is a member of Sure Thing, an Indy-native trio which specializes in acoustic rock with charisma. The band, comprised entirely of music students trained at Indiana University, has a unique sound which blends pop and rock with other stylistic undertones including jazz and hip hop. LINK
